The State of Black Dayton Report: A Benchmark for Progress and Racial Equity

We are proud to announce the upcoming release of the State of Black Dayton Report, a critical benchmark for progress in the fight for racial equity. Last published in 2017, this highly anticipated report will launch in Fall 2025 and provide an in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities affecting Black residents across Dayton.

As a trusted resource and catalyst for change, the State of Black Dayton Report will evaluate key areas including education, income inequality, criminal justice reform, housing equity, minority and women’s business enterprises (MWBEs), the digital economy, and health outcomes.

A Commitment to Dayton's Future

For decades, the Miami Valley Urban League has been at the forefront of advancing equity and opportunity in Dayton. The 2025 report continues this legacy, offering valuable insights to guide policymakers, business leaders, and community advocates in creating a more inclusive and equitable future for all.

Key Insights from the 2025 Report

The report will address the following critical areas:

  • Education: Highlighting disparities in access and achievement while offering strategies for systemic improvement.
  • Income: Analyzing wage gaps and opportunities for financial empowerment.
  • Criminal Justice: Exploring reforms to promote fairness and reduce systemic inequities.
  • Housing: Addressing challenges in affordable housing and equitable homeownership opportunities.
  • Minority and Women-Owned Businesses (MWBEs): Showcasing successes and advocating for increased resources and support.
  • The Digital Economy: Identifying solutions to bridge the digital divide and expand tech-related opportunities.
  • Health: Providing data and recommendations to combat health disparities in the community.

We want the voice of the Dayton community to shine in this report. Your insights are an essential part of shaping our research. Through this survey, we invite you to share your aspirations for the Dayton region (keep all of Montgomery County in mind - individuals, groups, neighborhoods, businesses, industry, schools, etc.), along with your experiences, challenges, and ideas for the future.
