About Business Development & Entrepreneurship

For local entrepreneurs, the Miami Valley Urban League's Business Development and Entrepreneurship program serves as a catalyst for growth and opportunity. This initiative supports business owners in the Dayton area looking to start or expand their operations. The goal is to increase entrepreneurs' capacity to seize new business opportunities and access financing, leading to higher levels of business growth. Through workshops, networking events, and one-on-one coaching, entrepreneurs gain valuable insights and tools necessary for business success.

Utsey Shelton MVUL Business Advisor

Get to know our expert 

Utsey T. Shelton is a powerhouse within the small business community, serving as a Business Advisor for the Miami Valley Urban League. She excels in providing technical assistance and capital infusion opportunities to support minority businesses in Dayton and surrounding counties. Utsey's enthusiasm and dedication extend to local organizations, contributing to annual fundraising efforts for the Dayton Heart Association and the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ). She has served on the advisory board and facilitated coffee talks for Women in Business Networking (WiBN). A 2022 graduate of the Miami Valley Regional Environmental Justice Academy, Utsey holds a Bachelor's degree in Communications from Central State University. Her career includes experience as an on-air producer for WCSU-FM radio. Additionally, she is a published author of the devotional "Secret Moments" and co-author of "Success Powered by Relationships" and "The Audacity to Phenomenally Become Her!"
